WEST KENDALL ANIMAL HOSPITAL
PET CARE WELLNESS PLAN: DENTAL OPTION
At West Kendall Animal Hospital, we recognize the importance of excellent dental care for all pets. We routinely recommend that pet owners begin cleaning their pet’s teeth at home when the pet is still a puppy or kitten, so they become used to the process.
As your pet begins to grow older, tartar will form on his/her teeth. This tarter can only effectively be removed with an ultrasonic cleaning, a procedure which needs to be performed while a dog or cat is under general anesthesia. When tartar is allowed to accumulate on teeth, teeth can eventually become decayed and even infected. Untreated dental problems in dogs and cats can lead to anorexia, heart and kidney disease, and of course, bad breath. For the majority of pets, ultrasonic dental cleanings should begin when the pet is approximately 2½ years old. Most pets need an annual cleaning; some require cleaning less often, and a few need cleanings every six months. The Pet Care Dental Option is a pre-paid dental plan which provides for one ultrasonic cleaning annually at a fee which is an average of 50% or more below the standard dental fee. There is an additional annual premium for pets on the Pet Care Wellness Plan to be covered by the Pet Care Dental Option.
Included in the Dental Option is one annual ultrasonic cleaning under isoflurane anesthesia, with fluoride treatment and OraVet professional-strength Barrier Sealant application. Extractions, x-rays and periceutic treatment are not included but may be needed. [When the dental scaling is combined with another surgical procedure, the Dental Option will apply ONLY to the dental scaling, fluoride treatment, and the portion of the anesthesia required for the dental scaling. The IV catheter and fluids, pulse oximeter and EKG monitoring while under anesthesia, pre-anesthesia blood screen (appropriate for age), antibiotic injection prior to procedure, oral antibiotics, pain medication and post-anesthesia diet, as well as the fee for the surgical procedure, will be billed at the standard rate less the applicable Pet Care discount.]
The Pet Care Dental Option is available only for pets that are already covered by the Pet Care Wellness Plan, and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Plan. The Dental Option can be purchased only at the inception date of the Pet Care Wellness Plan. It is the owner’s responsibility to schedule the dental cleaning within the Pet Care Wellness Plan term.
